UPDATE: The transition to Fidelity is complete! Log on to NetBenefits® at netbenefits.com/amazon401k or call the Fidelity Service Center at 1-800-835-5095 to learn more about your Amazon 401(k) Plan.
What’s stayed the same
Same investment options
The investment options that were previously available in the Amazon 401(k) Plan did not change as part of this transition, so the way your money was invested did not change as a result of the move to Fidelity.
And of course, it’s your 401(k), so you can change the way your money is invested at virtually any time.1
Same matching contributions
If you’re an active employee, Amazon will continue to help your 401(k) Plan account grow by matching 50% of the first 4% of your contributions.
What’s new for January 2020
Beginning January 2020, all full-time and reduced-time employees will be automatically enrolled in the Plan at a pre-tax contribution rate of 2%, in the Target Retirement Select Series, with an annual auto-increase of 1%.
For new hires
Automatic enrollment is generally effective 90 days from hire date. You can opt out of the Plan or change your contribution rate before paycheck deductions begin. Information, including details about automatic enrollment, will be provided in new hire materials.
For existing employees
Employees who have not made a contribution election will be automatically enrolled as described above. You will receive more details in January, including information on the 90 day opt out period before paycheck deductions begin in April 2020.
New ways to save
We added after-tax contributions to your 401(k). And you can take advantage of extra tax benefits by converting after-tax contributions to Roth inside the 401(k) Plan.
New ways to invest
Fidelity BrokerageLink® was being added to your 401(k) Plan. Put simply, BrokerageLink combines your 401(k) Plan with a brokerage account that gives you access to thousands of investment options beyond those offered by the Plan.2 For more information, review the fact sheet and commission schedule to see the fees and risks that apply.
“Real time” traded stock
Your Amazon Stock Fund is now traded in real time. Because there’s virtually no wait time, you have more flexibility in making company stock trades within your 401(k) Plan.1
Investing involves risk, including risk of loss.
1Under Amazon’s Insider Trading Policy, you are responsible for complying with restrictions on transactions while in possession of material non-public information, trading window restrictions, and preclearance procedures (if applicable) for any transactions involving the Amazon.com Stock Fund. Amazon’s Insider Trading Policy can be found at http://inside.amazon.com. (You must be on the Amazon network to access this policy.)
2BrokerageLink includes investments beyond those in your plan's lineup. You should compare investments and share classes that are available in your plan's lineup with those available through BrokerageLink, and determine the available share class that is appropriate for your situation. The plan fiduciary neither evaluates nor monitors the investments available through BrokerageLink. It is your responsibility to ensure that the investments you select are suitable for your situation, including your goals, time horizon, and risk tolerance.
